The Session is the Presbyterian name for the church board. Elders are elected by the congregation and serve three year terms. They may serve only two consecutive terms. In our church the Session is composed of seven elders.
The session has the responsibility for governing the congregation and guiding its witness to the sovereign activity of God in the world, so that the congregation is and becomes a community of faith, hope, love, and witness.
To accomplish those goals the Session provides that the Word of God is truly preached and heard, the Sacraments are rightly administered and received, and nurtures the covenant community of disciples of Christ.
The pastor of the congregation acts as the moderator (chair) of the Session but has no vote.
